Kozhukattai(with channa dal poornam)

Actually Iam so excited to post this recipe, because I love Lord Ganesh verrrrry much... Something special attachment to him, he is my best friend too... I share everything to him, my hubby used to kidding me... It looks childish & silly, but I feel good like anything...

" Happy birthday to lord Ganesh.."

Kolukattai/ Kozhukattai is the favorite dish for vinayagar, that's why I too like it very much.. My hubby is not interested in eating kozhukattai, but after marriage he started to love it...because of soft & delicious taste... This recipe can be prepared especially on VINAYAGAR CHATHURTHI...  It can be made either with channa dal puran or coconut poornam... The stuffing is so simple & flavorful....

Preparation Time- 25-30mins   Cooking Time- 10-15mins

INGREDIENTS:

Raw rice/ idly rice- 1 cup or rice flour- 1 cup
Water- as needed
Salt- as needed

FOR CHANNA DAL PURAN:

METHOD:

  • Soak rice for about 3 hours & grind into fine paste... add some salt & mix well... keep it aside... Heat a pan & pour the thick batter & made into smooth consistency. ...
  • Otherwise, boil water & add to the rice flour little by little & mix to form smooth dough & make small equal sized balls & keep it aside...
  • Boil channa dal & drain water... Take a blender, add channa  dal, grated coconut & cardamom powder...grind into smooth paste....( click here)
  • Heat a pan, add 1 tsp of oil & pour the thick rice flour paste, stir gently... in couple of minutes it reduces water & made into thick consistency....
  • Knead the dough & make into small equal sized balls...
  • Grease your hands with oil, so that it cannot stick on hands... Take a small ball & flatten it slightly thin(cup sized) & add the puran filling at the middle & press the edges completely & seal it...( refer picture)..
  • Repeat the process for remaining balls & make ready...( you can use fork to design at the edges)
  • Add water in a steamer, when it starts boiling, arrange the kozhukattais in idly plate & place it on a steamer, cook for 10 - 15 mins....
  • Wowwww..... whity softy kozhukattai is ready...

NOTE- Do not over cook the kozhukattai... when it looks shinny, take out from the steamer.. You can use mould to do kozhukattai....

TIP-  My mom used to flatten kozhukattai using a banana leaf greased with oil....
